pic cred: IPL
Kagiso Rabada's Gujarat Titans suffered a big loss against Quinton de Kock's Mumbai Indians. The Gujarat-based franchise lost by 99 runs against the five-time IPL champions.
MI batted first with de Kock, joined by Danish Malewar, who was replacing Ryan Rickelton at the top. The young Indian opener did not last for long as he was trapped LBW by Rabada in the second over. Rabada would also claim the next two wickets in the powerplay, dismissing de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav. MI was 44 for 3 at the time of Suryakumar's wicket, and then two fantastic partnerships for MI followed, thanks to a Tilak Varma masterclass. The Indian international scored his maiden IPL hundred to help MI post 199 for 5. Tilak's knock of 101 not out at a strike rate of 224 consisted of 7 sixes and 8 fours. On the other hand, Rabada finished on 3 for 33, pushing him to number 4 on the IPL highest wicket-taker's list.
In response, the Titans never threatened the MI target of 200. The home side was outclassed and bowled out for 100 by the MI bowlers.
The Titans currently have three wins and three losses in the tournament, while MI has managed its first win after losing four matches in a row. The Titans will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their next match, and MI will face Chennai Super Kings at home.
