Heinrich Klaasen's knock of 69 from 43 balls helped Sunrisers Hyderabad post a competitive score that Punjab Kings could not reach. With the win, Sunrisers leapfrog the Kings to take first position in the IPL log.

Sunrisers Hyderabad batted first in home conditions, establishing a 54-run opening stand between Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek (35) was the first wicket to fall, followed by Head (38), leaving Sunrisers at 84 for 2 after dismissals by Lockie Ferguson and Yuzvendra Chahal, respectively. An 88-run partnership between Klaasen and Ishan Kishan (55) followed. Klaasen then joined Nitish Reddy, and the pair added 63 runs from 32 balls, helping Sunrisers post 235 for 4 in their 20 overs.

Klaasen's innings of 69, featuring 3 fours and 4 sixes, propelled the former Proteas batter to the top of the competition's run-scoring charts with 494 runs. He recently reiterated his decision not to return to international cricket.

The Kings, looking to prevent three defeats in a row, started poorly, losing 3 wickets for 23 inside four overs. Only 22-year-old Australian batter Cooper Connolly offered significant resistance, scoring an unbeaten 107 from 54 balls. However, his heroics were not enough as the Kings managed only 202/7 in their 20 overs. Sunrisers ultimately won the match by 33 runs.

The Kings will next face the Delhi Capitals, featuring Tristan Stubbs, Lungi Ngidi, and David Miller, while Sunrisers will meet Kagiso Rabada's Gujarat Titans.
