Goldrush Boland has signed Lizaad Williams for the upcoming season and this will be the first time the South African international bowler will call Boland Park home since he left the now-defunct Cape Cobras franchise for the Momentum Titans.

Williams left for the Titans in the 2020/21 season and he would go on and represent the Tshwane-based provincial side 47 times across the three formats. He took 54 wickets in the CSA 4-Day Series, 12 in the CSA One Day Cup and 28 in the CSA T20 Challenge. His relatively low caps for the Titans were due to his Proteas commitments and getting injuries at the wrong time. His performances also earned him an IPL stint as a replacement player for the Delhi Capitals.

His stay of six years in the capital city was made official by CSA social media platforms a week after he was not awarded a National Contract by CSA.

That had meant Williams, who likely commands a large salary, it would have meant Titans cricket would have to pay Williams' salary in the coming season. This is where Boland came in, who does not have a superstar in their ranks.

Williams is likely to lead the Boland bowling attack and if he can be injury-free, then Boland will be able to realize the fruits of their investment. They are likely getting a Williams who is hungry to get himself back into the national team fold and that won't be an easy goal with the current South African fast bowling unit being at the pick of their performances.

Boland is currently reinforcing their squad for the next two seasons after signing Gavin Kaplan for multiple years. Williams' signature cements the fact that Boland does not just want to survive relegation but wants to win a trophy, hence they are not only bringing in a superstar in their dressing room but also a proven winner. A player who knows how to compete for trophies.

With Boland not having a single player in the 2025-26 Betway SA20 season. With Williams' signature, that means they currently have a player contracted to an SA20 franchise.

It remains to be seen how the rest of the Boland squad will look for the coming season.
